President Now Runs NY Politics: Orders Paterson to Yield

All three NYC papers are running the story of the White House finding the biggest bus in the fleet to throw Governor David Paterson under. The Obama administration has confirmed it has sent a clear message to the Governor to step aside and let Attorney General Andrew Cuomo be the Democratic nominee for governor in 2010.
Since everyone else is race-based , I might as well say it. The only impediment to Cuomo has been the accusation of taking on the state's first black governor, especially since it was Andrew who challenged Carl McCall for the nomination in 2002.
With the nation's first black president giving the OK to dump Paterson, the race issue is gone and very likely, so is Mr. Paterson.
This kind of direct meddling in a state race is also a measure of how the President views his role and his power.

right now the top of this blog has a picture of obama next to the quip "i'll pick your governor and your doctor!" i know it's intended as humor, and so maybe it's not such a big deal, but it's still troubling to see that kind of misinformation about the health care debate being so casually tossed around. there's nothing whatsoever in the bills that are being developed about obama or the government choosing your doctor! the plans bend over backwards to preserve consumer choice!

again, i understand it's something of a joke. but i think that, as mayor, mr. graham should be more careful about promulgating misinformation to his readers and constituents.

Thats all we need now, is Obama sticking is nose in New York politics,we have engough liers in New York, with out the king butting in.He has the nerve to say he knew nothing about acron."Frankly, it's not really something I've followed closely," Obama said. "I didn't even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money."give me a break!and he has the ordasity to say that he doesnt want illegal immigrats to be coverd by HIS health care. The lies, flow so smoothy out of his mouth, that i'm embarrass to tell people that I voted for that fool. One thing I can say about Paterson, he seem to be the only straight shooter in albany now,He just need to be his own man,and get better people behind him.and learn how to deal in the pressure cooker of politics, better then he is doing now.One thing is for sure, and thats, Obama is going to be just like Paterson, and that's, a one term politician.

I hope the story is NOT true, and is only a TRIAL BALOON; but suppose it's true? Then my message posted at the NY Daily News and here applies:

"This story got my blood boiling, and I have a couple of comments: (1) I don't care what President Obama “wants or does not want” in this case. The W/H supposedly chased away all DEMS to avoid a primary against Sen. Gillibrand and that stinks, too. (2) I hope Gov. Dave seeks election for this seat that he was appointed to after that nasty scandal. He has done pretty good — vis-à-vis the nitwits in the Senate and Assembly. (3) I'm with the Gov, and I will support him all I can. (4) I'm against Mr. Obama or anyone else in the White House who claims the high road about their definition of “representative democracy” as they travel the low road (if this story is true). I'm a lifelong DEM, and if I had the money, I'd oppose Gillibrand. — Dan Francis (Watertown)

NY Times...Daily News...NY Post all ran the story and it was in house reporters not just an AP story.....
White House is trying to back away but this is similar to President's efforts to influence Senate appointments (Ill. NY. MA.)
Of course, Mr. Obama is the leader of the party and can be expected to exercise control, although there is always a downside in getting too pushy.

Mr. Obama as party leader has/wants control? Fine, "one vote/one man" - then the rest of stay home? Let the W/H pick and choose?

Cynical, I know, a bit; but man, oh man am I pissed about this kind of story (and I hope it is not true).

I wish I had the money to organize and run against Gillibrand ... it's the same principle... and it stinks.

BL: I hate strong-armed anything, period in cases like this.
