Today's Indy endorsement of Matt Doheny came after the candidate went through the paces of meeting the handful of activitists who litter the 23rd CD. He made an honest effort and even though the ultimate decision rested with the state chair, there was genuine support for Mr. Doheny.
In their own way, I respect all three candidates for the seat and respect their love of country and the region they live in.
As for Doheny, what impresses me is his enthusiasm, drive and intellect. I have had occasion to talk to him in a variety of settings...He does know a lot about real issues and reads alot...His acumen in finance is especially appealing in these crazy economic times.
He is a savant on sports trivia...He even knew what college team has an anteater as a mascot. (University of California at Irvine).
This is one of these years when even independent voters look at the election in parliamentary terms....In other words, parties.... I think that while the GOP has been a big disappointment on more than one occasion, the current regime in DC doesn't even seem to understand this charade of spending just cannot go on.
We need enough people to apply the brakes....And call me parochial, I like the idea of someone from Jefferson County as my Congressman....Guess I got used to having a Watertown native in the office with John McHugh.
You won't see me saying much more about my preferences in this race as I recognize the need to work with them all and as a blogger and talk show host, I am a believer in being fair and balanced.
Ultimately, Mr. Doheny will have to make his case to all of you over the coming months as will Rep. Bill Owens and Doug Hoffman. Please take the time to listen to all three.

He is an intellignet person. He is well versed on some issues. GOP versed. He dosnt have solution or I should say real solutions. The thing that has kept him strong is wall sts. money. He will owe them so much once this is over that if he wins, WE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO PAY IT BACK FOR HIM..

In other words To sum up Doheny he is a jock, knowledgeble in some areas, can recite the towns in his district, will win the GOP nod, likes little kids, dosnt like girls, is rich and owes wall st. Just what we need for a congressman. Vote Doheny if you dare

Doheny is very smart on the issues and very dumb with his personal life. People elect the whole person, not just the politician. I have no problem with Doheny being unmarried, but there can be complications with that life. I don't want a crazy girlfriend who harasses everyone embarrassing us and distracting him in office. It is time for him to grow up.

You say simply he like women.. He has a woman at time accompany him but he,d rather be with the guys or a guy.. He didnt pick a bad woman, he finally got what was coming to him for using this woman as I stated above. She probably read into a realationship wrong and cant let go. This thing for children is also discusting.
I hear that this weird girlfriend is a frump too. Maybe she is just a beard. Why else would he settle for that.
This is why Republicans need to get rid of the social "conservatives" in their party. They're such gossip queens. Their focus on Leave It To Beaver "family values" and a social "conservatism" from an era that they can't relive is foreign to contemporary voters and loses elections for Republicans. While everybody else is exploring Doheny's resume and looking over his positions on issues, the social "conservatives" are exploring his closet and looking for lipstick on his collar.
However, if you decide to continue gossiping and dissecting your candidate's personal life like a bunch of blue-haired old ladies at the beauty shop, please keep posting it. For young voters and Democrats watching from afar, your internal discussions are a rare opportunity to witness the political discourse of sixty years ago. :)
100 - I believe the character of my representative is relevant. It speaks to their honesty and integrity when the cameras aren't rolling. People say there are strong parallels between Doheny and John Edwards and I am starting to see why.

A couple years back Matt had been dating a nice normal girl for a few years. They were always together. She hasn't been around for a while, but she was a nice cool girl. No way he is gay, but it seems his quality control has slipped since then.
