ADE: Hoffman Folds

In a move Republicans hope will lead to the election of Matt Doheny as Congressman, Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman has ended his efforts and is urging supporters to back Mr. Doheny.
In a statement from his Adirondack home, Mr. Hoffman says he wants to block the relection of Rep. Bill Owens and that his differences with Mr. Doheny are minor.
The Doheny campaign had hoped once the embers from the hot primary race had cooled, Mr Hoffman might reconsider his third party bid.
Hoffman ran as the Conservative nominee last year, garnering 46% and this year he lost the GOP primary 51-49 despite Doheny's 12 to one spending edge.
Chatter among the political class has been that with Hoffman standing down, Doheny enjoys a double digit lead....A spate of negative ads by Mr. Owens suggests that might indeed be the case.
The 40 year old Doheny is a native of Alexandria Bay and lives in Watertown.
Both Mr. Owens and Mr Doheny are in Watertown today at separate events....Of course, Watertown is the most populous city in NY 23 and considered the rightful capital of the sprawling district.

Mr. Owens: Turn out the lights, the party's over....

As much as I support Mr. Hoffman, I think he made the right decision in this case. Owens supported Obamacare, he MUST to go. If he doesn't, we deserve just what we get.

Well now we know Hoffman has more character than Dede. Did Dede endorse Owens again yet? If not why not? It would be interesting to hear her explanation of the issue[s] as to why Hoffman was unacceptable but Doheny is not.

Well if you havent noticed Matt agrees with Dede on every issue. Funny how all of a sudden Hoffman is ok with supporting the person he has compared to Dede all year. Nice cash payout maybe???

Hoffman did what, I thought Mark Barie, jumped ship from the SS Hoffman a few weeks ago and gave Mr. Doheny all the Tea-Bugger votes. Bill and Darrell win! And just remember who the real political favorites are around here. The people that deliver the Bacon to our district, not these political wannabees who act like its not important to win financial support for your district. As in, "Earmarks are such a terrible thing." Yeah, right! Even Matt Doheny at the beginning of this campaign felt that Earmarks, were at their worst when the 23rd couldn't get any before he drove 'Betsy down political fantasy RTE 109. Earmarks are a blessing when you can get them, and a curse when your ineptitude prevents you from winning them for your district.

Matt and Dede have no differences on the issues so why wasn't Hoffman a man of his word last year and support Dede? One word MONEY? How much did Matt pay for this is the question?

Anonymous said...

I dont think NYC and Wall Street have enough control over our lives. Therefore, I'm voting for Doheny. NYC rules.

Brian said...

Come on guys, Hoffman JUST SAID that the differences between him and Doheny are few. GIVE IT A REST. Lets focus on taking out Bill and Nancy!!!

Anonymous said...

Then the differences between him and Dede were a few also and we wouldnt have Bill there. Is that an expenditure you can list on the FEC report under PAYOFF... I am pretty sure i have a few mailers from Hoffman with Matt and Dede in a heart together. Now he wants to tell me he supports Matt???

Middle-Class Mike said...

Inever disagree with anyone who has the check in the mail ... why would I have any difference at that point. And I'll bet Matt gave his word that there was enough money in his account from Wall Street to cover it.

Middle Class Mike, ask around to who has predicted the winners circle around here.Ive been wrong but not on many.Darrell has his work cut out for him.Owens will lose,Addie wins,Ken wins,John Burns wins,Griffo goes down.Andy wins....yadda yadda yadda...Close race goes to Pattie and Darrell.Mike did you know its 3 to 1 enrollment republicans with the edge. Now we are united with Doug making the right move...Good bye Billy Bob....write my pics down then we will talk some more.

Brian said...

Wow, never cease to amaze... Hoffman folded because HE WAS GOING TO LOSE. He has lost TWICE before, and he knew he was toast. I'll give Hoffman props, he did the right thing. Move on and look towards November. Unless you want more of Bill Owens and Nancy Pelosi... Your choice.

Mr Gormans article is exactly correct about the Mayor. Im sure hes supporting Doheny just because he was arrested a few times for BWI. Maybe Mr. Graham should get his head out of the gutter and support someone that has and will fight for the people, Bill Owens is that person. Doheny is not. Be careful Norther NY Doheny is bad for us all.

Matt is more slick backroom dealing then you have ever seen. Trust me I have seen it first hand. If that is what you want then go vote for him and you will get what you deserve.

I don't get this hate for Pelosi. She was one of the few to call Bush on his lies during the rush to war with Iraq. Now, as far as Shelly Silver and the other NYC Dems, I agree agree they are bad news for the area.

We want someone who is agressive and is going to do what ever it takes to keeep the 23rd on top of the to do list in congress. We need youth we need a shark like Matt Doheny hard worker he has already proven that...

Wow! It is funny to read all the desperate comments on here from the commies.
And the lie that Dede and Matt agree on all the issues….not even close.

Duff was wrong on the hotline today as usual. Hoffman never “had his shot” as Duff said he did. You don’t have your shot unless you get support from one of two major parties and from that small percentage of media that is conservative or the large percent that is liberal. Hoffman got none of that…yet he almost won last year and almost won the primary this year.

No doubt he would have won with some support other than just from the voters and a minor party.

Ok name one issue that Matt and Dede aren't the same on?? You can't do it.

Anonymous said...

Juston, Just a quick question for you. Where was Ken B a couple years ago when you were fighting Carl and the Carthage Centeral School?? I am pretty sure he wanted nothing to do with fighting or elping the residents then.

@1:17- Gay marriage. I win. And so does Matt.

Juston's Take On Government said...

look I don't agree with Ken on a few things.I can tell you this we didn't need him.We had big Mike, Scott Burto,we had the whole community.I would not be surprised if you are him.I know Scott is backing Brian McGrath and thats on him.I still think Scott is a great mayor and cares a great deal about the people. What I dont understand is how he can back someone who says he comes from family values but wants to legalize gay marriage.I just recently seen Scott officiating a marriage between a man and a women.Thats family values,Brian McGrath has done what to give back to this community? He talks down about how he had to move away, that this place was not good enough for him.I was taught a place is what you make of it and I love it here.I dont hate Brian I just don't agree with his lifestyle and would rather have Ken as the man in albany....

Ya,now that you mention that Juston, where did Brian attend school?was it downstate?or here we have some realy nice schools here.Just wondering if he left after going to one of our great schools that he does not mention or was he going to school downstate?

He didn't have Palin's blessing this time and he knew he couldn't win without it.

Anonymous said...

This race is far from over. Double digit lead for Doheny? I doubt it. In order for Doheny to have any chance, Hoffman had to get out of the way.Ryan had another horse at the track so needed to put one out to pasture. Perhaps Doheny offered to take care of Hoffman's campaign debt.

Anonymous said...

I am sure there was alot more offered then just his campaign debt. I am sure Matt's workers will book every room at Hoffmans motel, his firm will probably take over matts books, and Hoffman will probably loan Matt some more money at 7%. Hoffman is getting something out of this for sure.

Anonymous said...

And he cooks and eats puppies too!

ha ha ha desperation sounds so... desperate.
{Palin}I can see them voting out the Russian commies from my house.

Anonymous said...

Whats the news in Dohenys camp.. Someone insinuated that he and one of his consultants are at odds and the guy might be let go..

Anonymous said...

Hoffman will still be on the ballot and still get about 10% of the vote.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Hoffman let a lot of people down including me and my family. We now only have one senseable option and that would be to vote for Bill Owens. As DeDe S said last year you have to do what is right for the people and the country and not always vote for your party.. Owens is by far the best canidate and I wish him luck.

Anonymous said...

Anon. 5:35, I too am a Hoffman supporter, and I cannot fathom voting for Owens. I am glad that Hoffman released his supporters to vote for Doheny; Hoffman's explanation that he and Doheny share the goal of defeating Owens is very sound. Frankly, I feel relieved with Hoffman's support of Doheny because now I am certain that Owens does not have a chance.

5:54,
You are mistaking a desperate undercover spin-doctor for an honest poster.
Can't you smell the desperation?

Anonymous said...

5:35, if you deem it a sensible (check your spelling) to change your vote from Hoffman to Owens, then your vote was based on absolutely nothing. You have no credibility whatsoever. There is no possible logic behind that rationalization. There is one possibility. You're a party line Donkey and you were lying all along. I'll just betcha. If you want Owens/Pelosi, fine, but spare us the illogical mythology.

Anonymous said...

Y I think MMM learned how to use the Anon tag option. This is great news!!!Hoffman you did the right thing and for that we will get the seat back.....Lets go Doheny...

I do not blelieve there was any payoff to Mr. hoffman; if there was, what would that say about your candidate? That he is not above reproach? The bottom line, if there was a payout, and it was accepted, would this be the person you would want in Washington?

The district has been Rep forever, until the Dede and Hoffman debacle. Hoffman is doing the same thing Dede did, staying in long enough that his name will still be on the ballot.
He should of dropped immediately and threw his hat in for Matt.
I do agree with 1:08 the Senators in NYC have a strangle hold on us and we need to oust them. 1:08 you will have to figure Pelosi on your own.
