You Can't Blame Him for Asking But There's No Way Patty Debates

Another take on the SD48 race....The other day an Aubertine supporter said to me, "you have to call Patty out."
Me ? Not my job....If she won't debate or be interviewed, its likely good strategy.
By ducking debates you antagonize the insiders...the operatives and a few media wags who fancy themselves on a panel of questioners. (There is one closed to the public, taped debate this Friday on WPBS)
The vast majority of voters who will show up on Nov. 2 do not care about the debate game. They have likely already decided and one assumes the polls are not in the incumbents favor.
Ducking debates will cost few votes and participating will gain few...But by participating you risk either a mistake or the revelation that you are not that conversant on issues.
The GOP strategy is to elect a Republican placeholder...They can fill in the blanks later,
Patty Ritchie is playing to her strength....Personal campaigning, lots of ads and an electorate angry at the Democrats in Albany, even if they like the Democrat in Cape Vincent.
There is absolutely no reason for her to debate.

Patty Ritchie should be ashamed of herself for not debating. The people of NY23 have a right to hear their candidates present a coherent program for action in the service of our district and clearly express to us what as a State Sen. working in Albany they can get done for voters here.
The Ritchie campaign, Patty specifically could have said, I'll debate for the voters, stuff it if you think I need to play it safe. Playing it safe never kept the voters of the district informed by their respective campaigns. She can't claim to serve our interests in an oen and honest manner. Patty Ritchie is ducking a debate where she could tell us what she's about. I sure have no idea where shes at and I'm glad that I'm working and voting to bring Darrel Aubertine back to the State Sen. on Nov. 2nd.

Obviously she is afraid she'd be backed into a corner with questions she doesn't have a clue how to answer.

Ritchie hasnt answered any of the real questions since starting this campaign. Her manager Lisa Smithers and Riltchie herself answer only to Dean Skelos and the higher up of the SLC GOP. We know what everyone is upset about in the State. What can be done about it is the process we want to know about. Voting against the NYC Democrats isnt it. Constant voting no is how her running mate in the County (Forsythe) has handled things for three plus years with absolutely no sucess on anything. We blame legislators sometimes because they tend to listen and believe their dept heads like Ritchie. Thats why SLC is in the mess theya re in now. Its not so much legislators but rather incompetent Dept. Heads and certainly a less than competant Cty Manager. We need to hear something from her in the enxt week or two about her solutions or at least suggestions to the problmes we face..

Am I reading this right?
First you say she won't debate
and then a sentence later you say there is one debate?
Dicker would be proud of you.
(except you did not manage to tie her to Paladino in the article)
Keep honing.

How many debates does she have to agree to before she is no longer classified as refusing to debate?

So you (Graham) are saying that we should accept the idea of voting for someone who doesn't want to make a mistake now, so she has a batter chance of winning and making the mistakes when it really counts? Why don't we just line up the candidates with brown bags over their heads and vote in the dark?
Your rationale is ridiculous.

Here is what I have for MCM

This state sucks and it's taxing and spending are killing middle class jobs. Aubertine has been apart of raising my taxes and taking my job for 8 years. I'm done and voting for Ritchie.

Frankly I don't give a damn MCM whether she debates or not.

When Patty debates Darrel, she should ask him how much money he stands to make from his wind leases, when those contracts were signed, and why, as a member of the NYS Assembly, he advised the also-conflicted Cape Vincent board members NOT to recuse themselves from any decisions made on this issue. Really!

I've posted this before on here and I'll type it again. I like going to debates for the theatre of them...other than the Barclay-Aubertine debate in 07, no debate has ever changed my mind on who I was voting for. (Barclay was well prepared and Aubertine wasn't, I voted for Barclay because he had substance.)

Anyway, other than that one instance, I've never been swayed by a debate and I don't think this year would change my mind especially in this race. Darrel hasn't changed who he is, he's still the good 'ol boy acting as if he still was a farmer...I get it. Ritchie is the new person on the block...I get that too.

These debates are theatre because of the allegedly "non-biased" panel questioneers, usually some college professor who asks everything, but an important question. And then the campaigns roll out as many supporters as possible to hoot and holler after they candidate breathes.

Darrel has the Unions behind him and they'll stand up and cheerlead for him, scare a few bluehairs out of their pearl necklaces and hopefully keep them home on election day. Debates usually help the Democrat and in this race I'm sure Aubertine is counting on that same intimidation and historical revulsion.

No reason for Patty to debate, I'm just glad a candidate finally stepped up and said enough...I ain't doing it.

two terrible choices either way -- might as well vote for a 3rd party = nothing will change until we get a Constitutional Convention. Both are not what we need -- W

e need real transformational leaders NOT party disciples who aimlessly reinforce their party 's version of "the Truth"

Still gonna be 3 Guys in a Room deciding who they are gonna screw , when it comes to budget >

Debates are about as useful as a swimsuit contest.
All things being equal it would be best to have someone that excelled at public speaking and thinking quickly on their feet. But that would be a luxury.
I recall Perot’s running mate James Stockwell, when he performed very poorly on stage.
That did not indicate that he would not make better choices in leading this nation.

Truly the best debates would be in the form of written words. That would give them time to carefully consider the response and to chose words carefully instead of off the cuff or rehearsed doublespeak.

But the real debate in this case already took place many times throughout history. Conservatism won every time and republicans are the closest things to conservatism.
So Patty plate wins by default, even if it were true that she has her strings pulled from downstate, it is still better than having them pulled from NYS like Darrel does.

Please excuse Mike he just came on the scene and acts like he knows what is best for the people of NNY,this message is being brought to you from someone who has been to the debates and loves them. The best debate was Aubertine vs Renzi in Ogdensburg.9:07am Who ever you are by stateing Will Barclay has substance Please explain?Debates is where its at people!!you can go there and express your concerns with witness. The ones who deserve credit for good debates are Renzi and Aubertine it was raw and it was war,the type of debates that had you on the edge of your seats.Patti is doing a fine job she is in the position Darrell was in and he did the same thing.Drew is writing letters of desperation sounding like Ryan from the Hoffman camp.I love this people!!my blood pressure sometimes goes threw the roof and my wife hates it but I love it.Hot bed for some crazy elections right here in Northern New York.Gotta love it.Mike you should listen to me and get informed Patti has debated him befor did you know that? You sound very ill informed for being a teacher.

Juston, you see we agree on something, 'Debates,' are good for the whole politcal process and serve the voters well. "LETS GET IT ON1111" dARREL AND PATTY, I can't wait to view a good debate in this election process.

Middle Class Mike, you are the perfect example of why debates are foolish, antiquated spectacles. You would hoot and holler for your candidate and then go on here and tear down their opponent.

Why on Earth would any candidate subject themselves to that treatment? Most people running for office feel compelled to do them because it's what you do...well guess what, times change and perhaps the era of debates at the North Side Improvement League are over. What a travesty...

Move on and grow up Middle Class Mike...hey Mayor Graham, can we make a bet that two weeks after the election is over that we'll never see another post from Middle Class Mike...my guess is (s)he is a staffer of some safe NYC Democrat Senator sent up here to help save their majority. Two weeks and Middle Class Mike will be back in Midtown with Senator Slasher or some other corrupt thug.

103 is on point here, the debates are a waste of time and energy...door-to-door is where its at as most people are already decided. The mailers, the television commercials...that's all people pay attention to anyway.

Debates are an outgoing custom...great orators loved them, but unfortunetly, there aren't many great orators left. (Darrel and Patty certainly aren't.)

There is no reason for her to debate for one good reason: She is a lousy debater.

Just hold up a license plate and get on with it... Case closed.

You people are crazy. The only reason Darrel wants to debate is because he is way behind in the polls. He will stack all the debates with his cronies. But he has lots of baggage that he is carrying around.Alot of questions he will have to answer.# Wind # Hiring sister #Fulton Hospital closing #Raises for staff #DEC FLIP FLOPPING # Power for jobs he press released 5 times but never passed #Voting for Higher Taxes #Making Pedro Espoda the Senate Leader #Voting with New York City 100% of the time. This goes on an on etc.To much to list.

The Character assasination express has just passed by and has no relation to anything resembling the truth. I'll give you some truth, THE USE OF THE WORD THUGS, CRIMINALS,OUTSIDERS COMING UP-STATE FROM DOWNSTATE, TO TAMPER WITH OUR HONEST WALL STREET EX-PATRIOT MATT DOHENY, is looking desperate on your part. A loser in the end, its 'MATT DOHENY' who'll need a ticket into GRAND CENTRAL STATION, then MATT DOHENY, will limo down to WALL STREET.
