NY Senate Democrats: Minimum Wage = Poverty

Let me clue the Senate Democrats into something...If you are poor at $7.25 an hour, you are still poor at $8.50.
The minimum wage cannot promise prosperity. Everyone's situation is different.

They are absolutely right. Poor is poor. That' why you stay in school or learn a trade and delay babies and refrain from doing drugs and becoming a drunk. Unlike the Democrats' usual constituency.

Yes your right.. Become rich like Matt Doheny at the expense of these poor people. Lay them off, make yourself richer and them poorer then move the company oversees to get richer. Now your rich enough to attempt to buy a seat in congress so you can help your buddies on Wall St screw the taxpayers again..

That extra money could make all the difference. It could get them that next tattoo they have been holding off on. It could get them $5 scratch offs instead of $1 scratch offs they have been playing. It could get them ring back tones so their friends will think they are cool and hip. It could let them super-size at the drive through. It could buy them the Yankee stickers for the car or some spinners or some kick ass bass. Or a Yankees hat or an NFL jacket. It could get their babies ears pierced or another piercing on their own body.It could get them a nice tan or a spray tan.

The business owners can suck it up.

Raise the minimum wage and some marginal employees will lose his or her job. It's inevitable, and it's not just because the employer can't afford the 17% mandatory raise on the wages of the folks at the bottom of the pay scale. It's because these mandates have a "trickle-up" effect that impacts everyone on the payroll as ALL wages are forced to rise to accommodate the higher paid employees self-image and -interests. This ultimately has a negative the bottom line of the company unless the company can reduce costs, and that includes payroll. It's simple economics.

But it's an election year, and mandating pay raises as a false promise for a better life will bring smiles to the faces (and votes in the ballot boxes). All of you in favor of this foolishness should be forced to run a small business in this economically depressed area of the state, even just for a few months. Albany is killing small business in this state one law at a time.

As a proud member of the Republican Party I am against a minimum wage increase. In fact, I am against any kind of wage increase EXCEPT when it comes to me… then I am for it.

Owens is poor because he only made $800k screwing clients in plattsburgh. Of course, if you get Taiwan to pay for your lifestyle, you don't have to be rich.

Wall Street! Wall Street!
War on Women! War on Women!
At this angle it looks like a smooch!
Is any of the sh#t I throw sticking yet?
No? Why not? I don't understand! I promise free stuff and it's for the children!
Think of the children!

Funny that certain segments who post here never are concerned about the level of tax breaks for the top crust (big cuts) vs. the low-income workers (bread crumb cuts) ...

Why is that? Oh, yeah, they are the "job creators," right?

Nobody every accused YOU Dannie of getting breadcrumb tax breaks. You get more FreeStuff than most. And what would you know about jobs? Everything you ever did in your life was government related. Imagine if you had to live like many do, in the real world.

7:18, congrats on your memorization of lib BS regarding success comes from taking from the poor. If you do stupid things, like drugs, babies, drop out of school, commit crimes etc, you deserve to be a failure. Don't be a fool and try to blame that on people who work hard. What does Doheney have to do with that? What does John Kerry and his money have to do with that? Answer, nothing. Grow up.

Yet you yourself - as well as the local Ruling Class - hold fast to economic fantasies of your own.

I think you believe - certainly the local Ruling Class does - in the local "economic engine" consumer spending despite the fact that prosperity is undeniably connected to savings & productivity; that money is a commodity & every cent spent by the "economic engine" is money diverted away from the productive sector; that the chain stores & chain eateries really come at the expense of future generations.

It is so easy to sell the "economic engine" so long as the 'seen' is all that is discussed.

But the 'unseen' damage far outstrips any immediate advantage.

Danny please tell us what minimum wage has to do with tax cuts?

Please tell us what big tax break you are talking about? The biggest tax-break give-away in this state goes to you and your tax free pensioned up brethren. While the rest of us that worked for a living will have to pay taxes on our retirement savings, you government workers will get yours free of tax.
