Watertown Vies for Most Patriotic Honors

A rapid response by local patriots was needed when yesterday the local Yellow Ribbon Committee learned a pair of judges from Rand McNally would be in town this weekend to judge Watertown against five other towns competing to be named America's most patriotic town.
An impromptu rally on Public Square and a trip to Sackets Harbor were among the highlights for Rick Griffin and Sandi McKenna who are shooting video and taking in the sights as part of the Best of the Road contest sponsored by Rand McNally and USA Today.

Watertown's three living Mayors were on hand along with other leaders and supporters of the Army and Fort Drum.
My remarks centered on the unique perspective Watertonians have in living, working , shopping, and going to school side by side with those who defend our freedom.  So it's not that we are more patriotic than other fine Americans, it's that we have the opportunity to appreciate the gift that is the USA.

Mayor I have long felt that the center square of lawn on tower square in Thompson Park should hold a memorial to fallen military members from fort drum and jefferson county region, including wars dating back to WWI. I always thought this strip of grass is really wasted, nothing there, and it really does not appear to be used that much by visitors for recreation. It would be an excellent spot to teach visitors and children of the sacrifices of past residents of the area and military members posted to fort drum. The "Climb to Glory" statue on post would be a nice model to start the design.I believe the top spot in Watertown, elevation wise, should go to these brave men,and wonder what you and other persons reading this blog think..

There is not patriotism in this part of the country. There is, but only if it conincides with keeping the big base open so we can keep money coming in. We love government and FreeStuff, not the nation we're fortunate enough to live in.

"...If anything, the aggressive U.S. foreign policy that has existed since the end of WWII threatens our freedoms more than any foreign gov't. As people around the world fight back, our own political classes respond by taking away our rights and freedoms one-by-one, all in the name of "protecting freedom".

"...My point is to neither denigrate nor criticize those who memeoralize them. Instead, I would ask a simple question: Which American freedoms are the soldiers protecting?

"Then, I would ask one more question: Which are the freedoms we have lost?"

12:52. With the new cameras watching every move, you are an idiot for asking such a question. Those plate readers records all movement of everyone. Does that sound like a free country to you? If you bend over much longer you will have to learn to talk out your ass, a skill you're obviously developing.

Umm 1:06pm, I know reading comprehension is a foreign concept where you’re concerned, but if you can muster up a couple of brain cells and try real hard you might discover the quotes he cites are rhetorical in nature.

Incidentally, excellent post 12:52am.
